Childbearing Year Services

Your prenatal appointments aren't just about taking your vitals and listening to the baby's heartbeat (although we will). This is a vital time where we get to know each other. I hear about how you are doing in all aspects of life, listen to your dreams and plans for this birth and baby - treating your pregnancy from a holistic perspective.

I am available 24/7 for the six weeks around your due date. As soon as you go into labor, we stay in constant communication until we decide it's time for me to arrive. During your labor, I continually access and monitor your vitals, as well as baby's well-being through intermittent fetal monitoring. I support your labor process by encouraging you to listen to your body and make suggestions based on your labor pattern. At the time of birth I assist in protecting your tissues as you deliver your baby.

After you have birthed your baby, I monitor baby's well-being as well as your bleeding, and we deliver the placenta. I honor and protect your "golden hour" by quietly moving in the background, cleaning up and assessing. I help get your baby nursing if you need it. When you are ready, I do a newborn exam, weigh and measure your baby, examine you thoroughly and get you both fed and tucked into bed.

I continue to be available to you the full six weeks after your birth. You will receive scheduled visits at 24hrs, 3 days, 1, 2 and 6 weeks, and as needed. During these visits, we will talk about anything coming up for you, weigh and check baby's vitals, assess breastfeeding and monitor your vitals and healing.

“You are a midwife, assisting at someone else's birth. Do good without show or fuss. Facilitate what is happening rather than what you think ought to be happening. If you must take the lead, lead so that the mother is helped, yet still free and in charge. When the baby is born, the mother will rightly say, "We did it ourselves!”
